Overview
The Reed & Carolee Walker Fund of The Oregon Community Foundation was established in 2003 by a generous bequest from Ashland residents Reed and Carolee Walker. The fund is a permanent endowment with earnings to be used exclusively to support programs for the needy in Jackson County, Oregon.
Walker Legacy Grants: Improving the Health and Wellbeing of Children in Poverty
This program generally awards multi-year grants of $25,000 or more per year. Priority interests include dental health, mental health and substance abuse prevention and treatment services. Grants are awarded to organizations with a history of success that are prepared to demonstrate measurable results. In addition, preference is given to collaborative efforts, those that show a creative use of community resources, and those that intervene early or at crisis points.
Walker Responsive Services Grants: Meeting Basic Needs
This program awards one-year grants of $25,000 or less. High priority are programs that provide food, clothing, shelter and other emergency assistance to individuals and families. Funding also is available to schools, clubs and other organizations for enrichment programs for children in need. Preference is given to collaborative efforts, those that show a creative use of community resources, and those that make it easy for their clients to receive assistance.
Please note changes to the application process for Walker Fund grants.
Application Process
Beginning with 2011, the application process will change. The pre-application phase has been eliminated, so anyone interested in applying for new or renewal funding will submit a full appilcation. The due date for applications each year will be January 10. If January 10 falls on a weekend, the due date will be the end of the day on Friday. Progress reports are due at the same time. The two Walker Fund grant programs use the same application process and forms. Grant decisions are made in early May each year.
Detailed application directions and forms will be posted here by late summer 2010. Please check our website and follow the revised directions carefully in preparing a grant application for 2011.
Reporting on Grants
Going forward, progress reports are due on January 10 (approximately eight months following the grant award) for all grants. In addition, a final report is due August 1 for multi-year awards in their final year. Grant award letters contain specific information about reporting requirements. Here are the progress report form and the final report form.
