Community Tour options are listed below (including attendees permitted per option).  Please complete this survey to let us know your tour preferences.  We will do our best to accommodate one of your top three choices (tour choices will be assigned in the order they are received).

Option A: POIC and River Haven (10 attendees-all attendees will need to sign an NDA as requested by River Haven staff)

Option B: POIC and East Portland Community Investment Trust Plaza (20 attendees)

Option C: POIC and Metropolitan Family Service (20 attendees)

Option D: Hacienda CDC and PRISMID (25 attendees, gender neutral restroom available at both locations)

Option E: Hacienda CDC and Chinatown Museum (35)

 

About our Community Tour Hosts:

Hacienda CDC is a Latino Community Development Corporation that strengthens families by providing affordable housing, homeownership support, economic advancement and educational opportunities. Site visit will include Las Adelitas in Portland’s Cully neighborhood. This new community is designed for families and individuals looking for safe and affordable homes. Las Adelitas is named after female Mexican Revolutionaries which aims to prioritize wellbeing of its residents and provides a platform for growth and opportunity. https://haciendacdc.org/ 

Portland Opportunities Industrialization Center in partnership with Rosemary Anderson High School aims to provide high quality services in alternative education, mentoring, family outreach, employment training and placement. They serve over 3,000 people annually and worked to reconnect alienated, at-risk youth and adults affected by poverty, family instability and homelessness to education, career training and culturally specific wrap around services. This site visit will include a visit to the POIC Culinary and Hospitality Emergent Fellowship Academy (CHEF) – a 12 week program to support paid opportunity to learn culinary industry standards. https://www.portlandoic.org/

PRISMID Sanctuary was founded by musician and composer esperanza spalding – it is a ½ acre city sanctuary which serves as a gathering and healing space for Black and Indigenous artists, musicians, artists and cultural workers by providing artist led space to gather ideas and exchange creative opportunities. https://www.prismid.org/ 

River Haven is a 70 room community located in Northeast Portland which will serve as transitional, early recovery housing for people experiencing homelessness or at risk of houseleness. River Haven is a Project Turnkey site and is managed and hosted by Central City Concern (CCC). Native American Rehabilitation Association as well as CCC’s culturally specific substance abuse and recovery programs Puentes and Imani will provide referrals and services. https://centralcityconcern.org/wp-content/uploads/River-Haven.pdf 

East Portland Community Investment Trust (CIT) is Mercy Corps first Community Investment Trust – a model solution that utilizes a wealth building approach to invest in people and places by helping residents grow their wealth in assets, specifically those that are located within their own neighborhoods. CITs are community ownership models which provides low-dollar, loss protected investment opportunities for low to moderate level income individuals and supports them in securing short and long term returns by building equity in commercial real estate.  This site visit will be to Plaza 122 which houses several businesses owned and operated by local residents, with a focus on communities of color, immigrants and those earning less than $40,000 per year. https://www.investcit.com/  

Metropolitan Family Service CASH Oregon is an economic empowerment program committed to improving the financial lives of low to moderate income working families and individuals by providing free, high quality tax preparation and culturally responsive outreach. CASH Oregon’s Impuestos Comunitarios program is dedicated to supporting the Limited English Proficient, Spanish Speaking community through a welcoming culturally specific tax clinic. https://www.metfamily.org/ 

Portland Chinatown Museum is Oregon’s first museum showcasing Chinese American history, art, and culture. Site visit will include the permanent exhibition, Beyond the Gate: A Tale of Portland’s Historic Chinatowns. Two front galleries serve as a venue for the work of contemporary Asian American artists in all media, as a site for storytelling about the immigrant experience, and for exhibitions, lectures, performances, and other public programs. https://www.portlandchinatownmuseum.org/about/
