The BottleDrop Fund

Supporting organizations operating in the spirit of Oregon’s iconic Bottle Bill through annual grantmaking.

ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS BY INVITATION ONLY

The BottleDrop Fund was established by the Oregon Beverage Recycling Cooperative (OBRC) in 2018, in partnership with the Oregon Community Foundation. OBRC is the not-for-profit cooperative that serves as the operational steward of Oregon’s Bottle Bill on behalf of the beverage industry. OBRC operates this program at a lower cost per container than any other redemption system in North America, while facilitating more access for consumers than nearly any similar system in existence.

History and Purpose

The BottleDrop Fund was created to further the goal of Oregon’s innovative Bottle Bill: deploying creative policy solutions to keep Oregon beautiful, enhance recycling, protect the environment and help vulnerable people. Any year in which the container redemption rate drops below the legislature’s target of 80%, OBRC remits the value of unredeemed deposits beyond that point to the BottleDrop Fund to support nonprofits across Oregon. The BottleDrop Fund is additionally supported through BottleDrop’s Containers for Change program.

Invited nonprofits may apply for support focused on one or more of the following Bottle Drop priorities: litter and waste reduction; environmental conservation; environmental education; recycling; public-private partnership innovations that work to solve a community problem in Oregon and that are in the spirit of the original Bottle Bill; and skill-building and job training for low-income residents of Oregon.
