Latino Partnership Program Welcomes New Council Members Joshua Romero and Martha Sonato

With the support of many volunteers, Latino Partnership Program (LPP) centers the voices and experiences of the Latinos/x in its efforts by leaning into the strengths and collective wisdom of communities across Oregon. The LPP council, like its regional committees, is made up of volunteers who offer their expertise to guide and strengthen our work. The LPP seeks council members from across the state and industries, and we’re thrilled to introduce our newest committee members, Joshua Romero and Martha Sonato.

Joshua Romero

he/him | Central Oregon

Joshua Romero is passionate about engaging and developing employees through his role as employee engagement and experience program manager for the City of Bend. Prior to this role, he served as assistant communications director and a community relations manager for the city. His public relations and award-winning communications career has spanned higher education, public health, medical device and government.

He holds a certificate in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion for Organizational Excellence from Stanford Graduate School of Business. He served on the board of United Way of Central Oregon where he chaired the Community Impact Committee and was a founding member of the DEI Advisory Group. He also served on the Latino Community Association Advocacy Committee, Bend 2020 Civic Equity Project Advisory Board, and as a founding member of the Inclusive Innovation Initiative.

Joshua Romero, él/he/him (zona central de Oregon)

A Joshua Romero le apasiona interactuar con los empleados y fomentar su desarrollo a través de su función como administrador del Programa de Participación y Experiencia de los Empleados para la Ciudad de Bend. Antes de ese cargo, fue director adjunto de comunicaciones y un administrador de relaciones comunitarias para la ciudad. Su galardonada carrera de relaciones públicas y comunicaciones ha abarcado la educación superior, la salud pública, los dispositivos médicos y el gobierno.

Tiene un certificado en Diversidad, Equidad e Inclusión por Excelencia organizacional de Stanford Graduate School of Business. Formó parte del consejo de United Way of Central Oregon, donde fue presidente del Comité de Impacto Comunitario y fue un miembro fundador del Grupo Asesor de DEI. También fue parte del Comité de Defensoría de la Asociación de la Comunidad Latina, el Consejo Asesor del Proyecto de Equidad Cívica de Bend de 2020 y fue un miembro fundador de la Iniciativa para la Innovación Inclusiva.

Martha Sonato

she/her | Northern Willamette Valley

Martha Sonato was born in Michoacán, Mexico and immigrated with her family to Hood River at the age of seven. Martha is currently a state legislative and policy advocate at the Oregon Law Center. Before joining OLC, Martha served as the Political Director for PCUN, Electoral Director at PCUN, and previously worked in Governor Kate Brown’s office as a housing and human services policy assistant and as a legislative aide in Senator Sara Gelser’s office. Martha is also a wildland firefighter.

As the proud daughter of farmworkers, her background drives her passion to build and support policymaking that centers the needs and experiences of poor and low-income communities.

In her free time, Martha greatly enjoys spending time with her gray cat, Ollie, dancing, doing CrossFit and spending time with friends and family.

Martha Sonato, ella/she/her (Norte del Valle Willamette)

Martha Sonato nació en Michoacán, México e inmigró con su familia a Hood River cuando tenía siete años. Actualmente, Martha es una defensora de políticas y legislaciones estatales en el Centro Legal de Oregon (Oregon Law Center). Antes de unirse al OLC, Martha fue la directora política de PCUN, la directora electoral en PCUN y, previamente, trabajó en la oficina de la gobernadora Kate Brown como una asistente de políticas sobre vivienda y servicios humanos y una auxiliar legislativa en la oficina de la senadora Sara Gelser. Martha también es una bombera que combate incendios forestales.

Como la orgullosa hija de trabajadores del campo, sus antecedentes impulsan su pasión por desarrollar y apoyar la formulación de políticas que centren las necesidades y las experiencias de las comunidades pobres y de bajos ingresos. En su tiempo libre, Martha disfruta mucho pasar tiempo con su gato gris, Ollie, bailar, practicar CrossFit y pasar tiempo con amigos y familiares.
