Peter joined Columbia Sportswear Company in 1999 as Senior Counsel and Director of Intellectual Property. He has served in several roles since then, including General Counsel and Corporate Secretary, Chief Administrative Officer, Executive Vice President, before being named President of the company in 2025.

 

He is also active in industry organizations, and currently serves as a board member for the World Federation of the Sporting Goods Industry as well as the Footwear Distributors and Retailers of America. He is a past Board member of the Outdoor Industry Association and continues to serve on the OIA government affairs subcommittee.

 

Peter began his career as a journalist at the Oregonian and went on to be a political journalist at Congressional Quarterly magazine from 1984-90. In 1990, he was one of five journalists selected for a Knight Foundation Fellowship to attend Yale Law School, where he earned a Masters of Studies in Law in 1991. He received a JD from Stanford Law School in 1993 and a BA from Amherst College in 1984.
