Peter has served as Executive Vice President, Chief Administrative Officer, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of Columbia Sportswear Company since 2015. He joined Columbia Sportswear Company in 1999 as Senior Counsel and Director of Intellectual Property. He became Vice President and General Counsel, Secretary of Columbia in July 2004 and was named Senior Vice President of Legal and Corporate Affairs, General Counsel in January 2010. 

 

He is also active in industry organizations, and currently serves as a board member for the World Federation of the Sporting Goods Industry as well as the Footwear Distributors and Retailers of America. He is a past Board member of the Outdoor Industry Association and continues to serve on the OIA government affairs subcommittee.

 

Peter began his career as a journalist at the Oregonian and went on to be a political journalist at Congressional Quarterly magazine from 1984-90. In 1990, he was one of five journalists selected for a Knight Foundation Fellowship to attend Yale Law School, where he earned a Masters of Studies in Law in 1991. He received a JD from Stanford Law School in 1993 and a BA from Amherst College in 1984.
