Portland United Fund Supports Planning Efforts to Keep Trail Blazers in Portland
Rip City Forever established the Portland United Fund of Oregon Community Foundation to advocate and work with local and state officials to ensure the Portland Trail Blazers remain in and succeed in Portland for decades to come. The fund accepts donations to support needed work, such as planning and feasibility studies, to plan for the development and financing of a renovated or new arena.
You can support these important efforts with a donation.
From Rip City Forever:
The upcoming sale of the Trail Blazers opens the door to the possibility of a new owner moving the team to another city. Rip City Forever organized over the past year by former player Chris Dudley, former team executives Marshall Glickman and Erin Hubert and local business leaders Ryan Buchanan and Joth Ricci (a member of the OCF Board of Directors).
“While the NBA prefers the Blazers remain in Portland, there is no guarantee. Bigger cities with newer and better arenas would love to steal our team. Seattle’s loss of the Sonics in 2008 is what happens when a community fails to prepare in advance of an ownership change to adapt, compete and win. I am committed to working with the community, elected officials and league officials to ensuring the Blazers remain and succeed in Portland for decades to come.”
Chris Dudley, who played for 16 years in the NBA, including six years with Trail Blazers and also served as Treasurer of the NBA Players Association.
Remember, the Oklahoma City Thunder were once the Seattle Supersonics, the LA Clippers the San Diego Clippers, and the Sacramento Kings the Kansas City Kings — to name just a few teams that have moved.
Rip City Forever is a team of Oregonians united by our love for the Blazers and our belief that the future vitality of Portland goes hand-in-hand with the future success of the team. We intend to advocate with and provide professional support to elected and government officials to ensure the Blazers not only remain here but are a catalyst for the renewal and success of our city and state. Our goal is to inspire leadership, spur action and build public support to make speculation about the team leaving Portland unnecessary and irrelevant.
