February 4, 2027 | 12 – 1:30 pm | FREE

This one hour presentation is followed by an optional 30 minute Q&A session.

Founders of closely-held businesses may wish to give away the bulk of a family business to a tax-exempt organization to satisfy succession, stewardship and philanthropic goals. Advisors to these business owners need to be aware of the excess business holding rules and exceptions in order to find a way through the thorny threads of that tax. Learn about various planning opportunities and tax implications for gifting business interests to exempt organizations, including donor advised funds, private foundations, supporting organizations, and 501(c)(4) organizations. Kelly L. Hellmuth is a partner at Holland & Knight LLP in Jacksonville, Florida. She focuses her practice on charitable and nonprofit issues on a national scale and represents tax-exempt organizations as well as high-net-worth individuals doing charitable planning and giving. She is a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC), and since 2019, the Florida Bar has certified her as a Board Certified Specialist in Tax.
